THE MAFIA LAND 2
THE MAFIA LAND 2
The land is mafia but the citizens are friendly and hospitable especially to expatriates. The love of citizens for peace repels war or conflicts.
Nonetheless, life is like sailing deep seas facing rising storms. The rich get richer as the poor accept their fate to be poorer. A few men possess the entire wealth in the land and prevent its circulation for all to benefit.
In previous years, to succeed was based on competence then, it moved to who you knew at the top. The coin has been turned and it's now about who at the top knows you. The system has been corrupted to favour the few rich and powerful. Corruption looks good and is seen as a normal phenomenon.
The economic prospects of the mafia land is concentrated in chosen societies. Governance and trade has been centralized in the urban areas neglecting the many rural dwellings. Poor citizens seeking greener pastures migrate to live on the streets of the cities.
Prone to devastating living and the unfriendly weather conditions, they struggle to survive. Their health is of no concern to them but the dime they may earn on the streets means a lot.
Being educated doesn't guarantee citizens the luxuries of life.
Education has shifted from learning to solely about passing exams and tests. The knowledge most people acquire from schooling is impracticable in the real world.
Employment is a competitive conquest for the masses of graduates. A minute percentage of graduates are favoured and privileged to gain employment.
To graduates, the compulsory service to the land after school isn't patriotism anymore. It is about securing a well befitting institution that could absorb graduates after service. It is no longer the duties one can render to improve the Land but activities one can initiate so as to be retained for employment.
People go arms length to be placed at a service point of their choice leaving the less connected to their fate. The land is so sarcastic that, the educated litter for the uneducated to collect. One wonders who is really educated. Is it the formally educated fellow who litters the society or the uneducated fellow who collects these refuse to make a living?
The land is blessed with enormous natural resources greater than most lands yet it is rated as highly indebted poor land. Basic amenities such as water is traded to small scale miners to destroy as the "galamseys" search for gold and diamond in the rivers from which rural dwellers drink. Farmlands are destroyed and forests brought down for the selfish quest of minerals.
Leaders travel to other lands to enjoy the luxury of their beaches but neglect the many beaches of the land to filth and degradation. They spend lots of public funds on vacation on other beaches of faraway lands when same funds could be used to develop the Mafia beaches. If the beaches of Mafia land were to be developed, it could even be a source of income and tourist destination.
One interesting phenomenon of the land is when monies are allocated for projects but in reality, they exist not, yet completed and commissioned on paper. Public funds go missing and unaccounted for. No arrest made and no one to pay for the embezzlement. It is a land where narcotics under strict security surveillance can turn into a different product undetected.
The land is magnificent and amazing to live on. It is identified as the star of its geographical subregion and an epitome of democratic maturity.
